Jose Mourinho issues contract update on key Tottenham star Son Heung-min
Speaking in his post-match press conference after the win over West Brom (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has provided an update on the contract situation of Son Heung-min.
The 28-year-old South Korean international was on target as Tottenham Hotspur returned to winning ways on Sunday, beating West Bromwich Albion 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
During his post-match interview, Mourinho was asked for an update on the contract situation of Son. Rumours of a new deal for the forward have been doing the rounds since late last year. Mourinho himself had revealed that the club was working on a new contract for his star man.
However, there hasn’t been much progress made on that front till now. Mourinho, though, insisted that it was not a problem and a deal could be finalised once the coronavirus situation eases down.
“Son is not a problem, he has a contract still for a couple of years if I’m not wrong, maybe even three. I believe, just to wait for the right moment to do it.
“Probably this situation with the world where we are, the Covid situation, I don’t think it’s the right moment for players and clubs to discuss contracts with so many people losing jobs and not working and difficulties. I believe that when the sun shines again for the world, I believe the club and Sonny they are going to arrive quite easily to a conclusion.”

Son’s current contract with the club runs till the summer of 2023. Given his performances this term, there is no denying that he is deserving of a new and improved deal from the club. As for when that happens, it remains to be seen.
