Jamie Redknapp slams Jose Mourinho for creating more enemies than friends at Tottenham
Speaking to Sky Sports, Jamie Redknapp has called into question how Jose Mourinho has treated Tottenham stars Gareth Bale and Dele Alli this season. Both players came off the bench to provide brief sparks in what was a losing cause.
The Spurs boss is not one to hold back his words and has called out both players in the recent past. The most recent was just days ago when he called into question Bale’s Instagram post that contradicted his ‘injury’ ahead of the Manchester City clash.
Redknapp disagrees with Mourinho’s antics and believes he is erring by lining up players against him. Such an approach could backfire, especially when results are going against us.
“You need to keep players onside and Jose is making a habit right now of upsetting too many people that he needs as allies, not enemies.”
Redknapp believes Mourinho bringing on players he has antagonized to save himself is something that can backfire. Both Bale and Alli did well after coming on but with City holding onto the ball, their options were limited.
“He brings in Dele Alli and Gareth Bale and he wants them to bail him out, if you like. He’s been treating them badly, they’ve not been in the team and now you’re asking them to make a difference for you? That’s not how modern football works.”
Mourinho’s approach is high risk but also high reward. There are always players to respond well to adversity. But it could tremendously backfire if the player’s confidence is shot or doubted.

Redknapp’s observations are not without merit. The club cannot afford to have factions, especially at a time when we need to rally together and stem the rot. There is still much to play for and for now, we need unity. Mourinho should ensure every member involved with the squad is seeking the same outcome.
