Lille defender Sven Botman transfer stance made clear after Tottenham links
According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Lille defender Sven Botman has ‘never been close’ to leaving the French club despite transfer links with Tottenham Hotspur recently.
Liverpool and Spurs were two clubs linked with the 21-year-old in the January transfer window. However, it is now made clear that he has no agreement with any English clubs.
Romano did acknowledge that Botman was one of the hot commodities in the transfer market last month. Nevertheless, he mentioned that the player’s agent has discarded all rumours as ‘fake news’.
“Sven Botman will certainly be a key player in the summer transfers market, but there’s still no agreement with any English club as of today. “Fake news”, agent Bruinenberg comments. Tottenham and Liverpool were interested in January but he’s never been close to leave Lille.”
Botman has been highly impressive for Lille this season and has played 24 out of their 25 league games. He is one of the main reasons behind their good form and their joint-best defensive record so far.
His side is top of Ligue 1, leading 2nd-placed Paris Saint-Germain by a single point. Both the clubs have conceded just 15 times in the league this season.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have been in a defensive crisis ever since the closing stages of the transfer window. Spurs have lost 5 of their last 6 games in all competitions.
They also have just 1 clean sheet in their last 9 games. This is definitely a major cause for concern and a big reason why Spurs’ title race got derailed in the past few weeks.
