Tottenham and Liverpool monitoring Ezri Konsa after an impressive season at Aston Villa
A report by The Athletic (subscription required) states that Tottenham Hotspur are among the two clubs keeping tabs on Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa.
The Englishman signed for the Villans for a £12m fee from Brentford back in the summer of 2019. Since then, he has become a regular feature in the heart of the Villa defence.
Konsa played 25 league games in the last season the club narrowly avoided relegation to the Championship. But it has been his performance in the current campaign that has caught the eye of potential suitors.
Apart from Spurs, Liverpool are also keeping an eye on the 23-year-old. The Reds have had an unprecedented injury crisis in the heart of their defence this season. Spurs, meanwhile, would be looking to bolster their defence in the summer transfer window and Konsa is a potential candidate for that.
Konsa would be good for Spurs
Currently, Spurs are struggling at the back. The club, however, does not have a shortage of defenders with Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld, Joe Rodon, Eric Dier, and Japhet Tanganga all vying for starts.
Nevertheless, a young and talented English defender like Konsa would certainly add depth and quality to this backline. And it is not the first time he is linked to the North Londoners.
He was on the club’s wishlist when Alderweireld’s £25m release clause became active. However, the Belgian stayed and Konsa did not move to Spurs.
Naturally, Villa should be hoping to keep their prized asset for as long as they can at the club. His contract expires in 2023 but the Villans would be hoping to extend that.
