Son Heung-min responds to new contract talks at Tottenham Hotspur
Speaking ahead of our Europa League match tonight (h/t Football.london), Tottenham star Son Heung-min has stated that it was ‘unfair’ to talk about his new contract at the club.
Son is undoubtedly one of the best players in the league this season. So far, he has racked up 17 goals and 12 goals for Spurs since this campaign began. (h/t transfermarkt)
Tying him down to a new contract would be the ultimate good news for the fanbase. However, the South Korean is not ready to have the conversation yet, at least publically.
Son says that the contract talk is unfair at the moment because he is focused on what is going on right now and has not given his future much thought. His current contract expires in the summer of 2023.
“It’s a bit unfair to talk about a new contract at the moment, I am focused on the games and my team and that is the most important thing at the moment. I’m happy to be here and I’m working hard as a player and the team.”
Son continues to be important for Tottenham
The 28-year-old’s partnership with Harry Kane is the main reason behind the Lilywhites’ smashing start to the season.
This is probably why his dry goal-scoring run has coincided with Spurs’ poor form. Son has just one goal in his last 7 league games. The club has won just 2 of them and that has seen them fall all the way down to 9th place in the table.

Nevertheless, Son’s importance to the club cannot be overstated. His comments are probably not the most uplifting words for Spurs fans, but that doesn’t rule out a renewal in the future.
