Tottenham boost as RB Leipzig prepared for Marcel Sabitzer exit
According to German publication BILD (h/t Express), Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig have already prepared themselves for the summer exit of midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, who has been linked with Tottenham.
The 26-year-old Austrian has been with Leipzig since 2014 and has grown into one of their most pivotal players. He has been a key part of the team that has consistently punched above its weight in Bundesliga and reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals last season.
However, Sabitzer’s future at the club has become a hot topic of discussion for quite some time now. This is because the 26-year-old is set to enter the final year of his contract with Leipzig when the current season ends. Tottenham, for one, are keeping close tabs on the midfielder for some time now and are interested in signing him. (h/t Express)
Now, Tottenham may have been handed a major boost as the report claims that Leipzig have already prepared for Sabitzer’s departure. The club recruited Dominik Szoboszlai from sister club RB Salzburg in the January transfer window and he is likely to move into a deeper role to fill in Sabitzer’s role should he depart.
Tottenham could certainly do with the quality of Sabitzer in the middle of the park. Neither Moussa Sissoko nor Harry Winks are good enough for a team aiming to challenge for the titles. And the Austrian, who is a bit of an all-rounder, would be a perfect addition alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Sabitzer, so far this season, has featured 27 times in all competitions, scoring six goals and setting up six more. Someone who can score and create, as well as put in a shift off the ball, the 26-year-old would be a good fit in Jose Mourinho’s team. It now remains to be seen if Tottenham launch a move for him come summer.
