Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho urged to sell Eric Dier and Davison Sanchez

Speaking to talkSPORT (h/t Express), former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara has urged Jose Mourinho to get rid of defenders Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez following the defeat to West Ham.

Tottenham’s loss to the Hammers on Sunday has left us nine points off of fourth place in the Premier League table. The team has been underperforming for quite some time now, with the defence looking not good enough while the attacking unit lacking the endeavour of the earlier parts of the season as well.

Now, O’Hara has claimed that Mourinho is not responsible for the club’s recent decline and has added that the Portuguese must make a rejig in his defensive unit.

“I look at the team and the back-four is just an absolute shambles. I don’t know why Jose keeps playing [Davinson] Sanchez and [Eric] Dier because it’s probably one of the worst partnerships in the Premier League! Get rid of them! Dier is an alright player but as a centre-half he just looks lost around the box.”

Dier has largely played in the defensive midfield for the majority of this Tottenham career. However, he was moved to centre-half since the business end of the last season. And even though he looked the part in the role, the England international has gone through a decline in recent times.

Sanchez, meanwhile, has never quite been able to live up to the potential that he showed during his Ajax days which prompted Tottenham to invest heavily in him in 2017.

It remains to be seen whether Mourinho heeds O’Hara’s advice or not. But, it certainly won’t hurt Tottenham if they decided to bring in a new defender in the summer.
