Transfer News: Tottenham do not have a deal in place for Sven Botman
According to France Football‘s transfer news update, Tottenham Hotspur do not have an agreement to sign LOSC Lille defender Sven Botman in the summer, contrary to reports.
The 21-year-old joined Lille last summer from Dutch giants Ajax and has been a huge hit in France, establishing himself as one of the best young prospects in Ligue 1. Botman has featured in 32 games across all competitions for his new club, contributing with an assist in the process.
Reports last month claimed that Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho is an admirer of Botman’s qualities. (h/t Express)
That was followed by more speculations that claimed that Spurs had already made contact with the Dutchman’s representatives as well as Lille over a potential transfer for Botman. In fact, it was also said that Tottenham had convinced the Ligue 1 outfit on a summer deal. (h/t France Football)
However, as per the latest update, those claims are false, with the player’s agent dismissing them as “crazy” and “fake news”.
Tottenham’s defence looked solid in the early parts of the campaign. However, that hasn’t been the case of late with the likes of Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez struggling. Furthermore, with Toby Alderweireld not getting any younger and Joe Rodon lacking experience at the highest level, bringing in a new centre-back in the summer would be a smart move.

And Botman, given his age and potential, and his performances so far at Lille, could be a good transfer for Tottenham. While a deal may not be in place at the present time, hopefully a move can be agreed upon when the summer window is open for business.
