Tottenham top target Julian Nagelsmann open to Premier League move
According to The Telegraph (h/t Daily Star), Tottenham Hotspur have narrowed in on RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann as their primary candidate to replace Jose Mourinho who is facing the sack. And the German tactician would be open to a switch to the Premier League.
Mourinho has come under increasing pressure following a steep decline in Tottenham’s form in the Premier League over the past month or so. Indeed, having been contenders for the title in December, Spurs have dropped as low as ninth and are sweating over their chances of a top-four finish as well.
The 2-1 defeat to David Moyes’ West Ham this past weekend saw the Hammers move fourth, six points clear of us. And even though Mourinho was adamant that the team is not in crisis, things are starting to happen in the background.
The report claims that the next twelve days will be crucial for Mourinho if he is to save his job. During this period, Tottenham face Wolfsberger AC in the Europa League Round of 32 second leg. Having won the first leg 4-1, Tottenham are pretty much through to the next round.
However, there are tricky Premier League fixtures against Burnley, Fulham as well as Crystal Palace during this run, which could have a say in how things go for Mourinho. And, it further does not bode well for him that Tottenham’s top choice to replace him – Nagelsmann, would be open to moving to the Premier League at the end of the season.
