Jermaine Jenas backs Tottenham to make a strong push for PL top four
Speaking on BBC 5 Radio Live (h/t Football.london), former Tottenham and England midfielder Jermaine Jenas has backed the club to make a strong push for a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Following disappointing results last month, it looked like Tottenham Hotspur were down and out from the race for the UEFA Champions League qualifying spots. However, back-to-back wins over Burnley and Fulham have brought Jose Mourinho & co. to within five points of Chelsea in the fourth place.
And Jenas, who acknowledged that Spurs were pretty much out of the race not so long ago, had momentum on their side, which could have a telling effect on their chances.
“It wasn’t even a conversation at one point [top four]. We have been speaking about energy, positive and negative and the impact that can have on the team, but right now Tottenham have got that wave of energy, they are looking up and thinking ‘right, we can get there now all of a sudden’.”
Jenas further added that with teams like Leicester City dropping points of late, it could end up having a positive impact on Spurs’ chances of a top-four finish.
“There are a few teams like Leicester, by the way, who are on the other side of the coin, having lost some of their key players and they have the memory of what happened last season, and ‘can we hang on’ is their mentality. Little shifts like that have a big impact.”
