Jermaine Jenas shares how Jose Mourinho can get the best out of Gareth Bale at Tottenham Hotspur
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas was speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live (h/t football.london) and he stated how some confidence and more playing time can help Jose Mourinho get the best out of Gareth Bale.
Bale left for Real Madrid in the summer of 2013 after a 6-year stay at Spurs. After winning multiple trophies at Los Blancos, he was not getting a lot of minutes in the past couple of seasons.
And that led him to return to Tottenham last summer on a one-year-long loan spell. Even at Spurs, things started slowly for the Welshman.
Bale has just 4 league starts to his name, and is seeing more action in cup competitions for Spurs. But things seem to be on the up for him, especially after his recent run of 4 goals and 3 assists in his last 5 matches. (h/t transfermarkt)
Bale needs minutes
And Jenas believes that some love and trust from the manager is all Bale needs to recapture his mesmeric form. And he thinks that Mourinho is getting a hang of what he has to do.
“He developed into a monster on the pitch and he was floating onto the pitch like a god, like no-one could touch him, because he had that level of confidence and love that was given to him from the manager [Harry Redknapp].
“Maybe Jose has worked that out. ‘If I play him, and give him a bit of love, that’s how I get the best out of him’.”
He also mentioned the need for Bale to play for minutes for the Lilywhites. The former Southampton man has featured in all of the last 4 league games for the club.
“… he needs that run of games and that feel-good factor to be the main man.”
