According to the Daily Mail (h/t Daily Record), Scottish giants Celtic are poised to sign Wigan Athletic youngster Kyle Joseph, who has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur.

A product of the Wigan youth academy, Joseph has been with the club since 2004. Having made eight appearances for the club’s U-18 outfit, the 19-year-old made his first-team debut in October last year.

Since then, Joseph has gone on to feature 16 appearances for the Latics in all competitions, finding the back of the net on five occasions while setting up one more goal. (h/t Transfermarkt)

The centre-forward will be out of contract with Wigan Athletic at the end of the season, which had led to an interest in him from Tottenham. In addition, Arsenal and Leicester City were also linked with Joseph, along with Celtic. However, it seems like the Hoops have beaten the rest of the competition for his signing. (h/t Daily Record)

Indeed, the report claims that Celtic have won the race to sign the Scottish youth international and are closing in on a deal to sign the talented youngster on a pre-contract agreement.

Tottenham had raided Wigan Athletic last summer for the signing of teenage prospect Alfie Devine. And the young midfielder has made rapid strides in his first year at the club, going on to score on his first-team debut in the FA Cup.

Tottenham could have repeated the same trick with Joseph as well. However, the current Scottish champions, despite being without a manager currently, seem to have clinched the striker’s signing.
