Newcastle United are in the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Todd Cantwell
A report by Football League World (h/t Shields Gazette) claims that Newcastle United are interested in signing Norwich City midfielder, Todd Cantwell, who has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur.
The 23-year-old was attracting a lot of interest from other clubs last summer after Norwich went on. However, the Englishman stayed at the Canaries and is helping them fight for promotion.
Norwich are 10 points clear at the top of the Championship table and look set to re-join the elites in the Premier League next season. Cantwell has played a big role in that.
He has played in 22 Championship games so far and has 4 goals and 4 assists to his name. And now, the Magpies want him at St. James’ Park if they survive in the top-flight this season.
Battle for Cantwell
Newcastle are currently 16th in the table, just one point above the relegation zone. Tottenham have been linked with the youngster and the report states that their interest in him is still intact.
Cantwell is a very versatile player. Usually deployed on the left-wing by Norwich, he is capable of playing in multiple positions across the midfield and the attack.
This will definitely come in handy for any team that signs him considering the depth he could add to the squad. The deal for Cantwell would make even more sense if Gareth Bale re-joins Real Madrid at the end of this season.
In that case, the Norwich City midfielder could prove to be a great replacement for him. But for that to happen, Spurs would have to formalize their interest in him.
