Jose Mourinho aiming to win a trophy with Tottenham Hotspur this season
According to the Independent, Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has promised to celebrate a landmark year for both him and chairman Daniel Levy by trying to end the club’s trophy drought.
Spurs last won a major trophy in 2008 when they won the League Cup. In the 13 years since the club has come close on a few occasions but have failed to go all the way. With us set to contest the Carabao Cup final later this year, Spurs are effectively one win away from glory.
The current season is a special one for both Levy and Mourinho. The Spurs chairman is celebrating his 20th year at the helm while Mourinho will reach his 1000th game in charge later in the campaign.
“I would love to help, it’s not me. I’d love to be part of a work that can deliver a trophy, I would love.”
Spurs could give themselves a shot at European glory if they defeat Dinamo Zagreb later today. Both sides face off in the first leg of their Europa League round of 16 in North London. A victory will go a long way in making our job easier for the return leg.
“I’ve been lucky enough to win so many things, it’d be nice for him to celebrate my 1,000 official matches to celebrate winning a trophy for Tottenham.”
A serial winner, Mourinho has won major trophies at a number of Europe’s top clubs. Given his waning reputation and Tottenham’s bottle, the Spurs job could be his most challenging yet. The chance to bring back glory to the Lane will cement him alongside club greats.
Mourinho has won 24 major honours spread across four different countries. A 25th with Tottenham could be his most significant yet. His last triumph came in the Europa League with Manchester United in 2017. He had previously won the same trophy (Then named the UEFA Cup) with FC Porto in 2003.
