Tottenham Hotspur joined by Manchester United in transfer race for Burnley star Nick Pope

A report by the Daily Star (h/t Express) mentions that Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a transfer move for Burnley stopper, Nick Pope.

Sean Dyche, however, has put a huge £50m transfer price tag on the player. Hugo Lloris turns 35 this year and Spurs are looking for a replacement in the transfer market, with Pope on the club’s wish-list.

However, the Red Devils are in the same boat. United are open to selling David de Gea at the end of this season, with Ligue 1 giants, Paris Saint-Germain, interested in the 30-year-old Spaniard.

Dean Henderson could don the No. 1 shirt in De Gea’s absence but it is felt that he is not ready for it yet. Henderson is, of course, a goalkeeper that Tottenham have themselves been linked with this season.

Time for a change

Pope has been consistently good for Burnley over the years and has also made his England national team debut during that time. There are also calls for him to be England’s No. 1 in the UEFA Euros this summer.

Spurs have options on the bench in the goalkeeper department. 33-year-old Joe Hart has been the club’s No. 2 this season, having being signed by Jose Mourinho from Burnley last summer.

Apart from him, the club have 22-year-old Alfie Whiteman who is yet to make a senior start for the team, and Paulo Gazzaniga, who is playing at Elche in La Liga on loan from Spurs.

Pope would be a smart coup if Tottenham were to sign him in the future. The 28-year-old has over 100 Premier League games to his name and could be the replacement that Mourinho needs for Lloris.
