Good news for Tottenham Hotspur as Premier League announces timely change in rule pertaining to fans
Speaking to Premier League Productions (h/t football.london), Premier League CEO Richard Masters says that he is hopeful of letting fans attend the final two gameweeks this season, a decision that would work in favour of Tottenham Hotspur.
An outbreak of Covid-19 saw the world come to a halt and it had an effect on football too. Fans were not allowed to attend games inside the stadium in order to enforce social distancing.
While the sport came back, the fans didn’t. There was an attempt to let some fans in the stadiums in certain areas of the United Kingdom, but that came to a halt rather soon.
But now, according to the blueprint of the Covid-19 regulations made by the government last month, fans would be allowed to attend sporting events from May 17 onwards. The final round of Premier League fixtures come on May 23.
Advantage Spurs
According to the ruling, up to 10,000 fans would be allowed to attend Premier League games inside the stadium. And Masters hopes that this could be done for two rounds of fixtures before this season concludes.
“The Government’s roadmap is really welcome because it sets out a plan for a return of supporters, so hopefully the final two fixtures of our season will have up to 10,000 supporters in them all.”
This is great news for Tottenham, who are playing away to Leicester City on May 23rd. However, the set of fixtures that would be rescheduled are yet to be announced.
And in an effort to make sure that teams that play away in gameweek 38 have a chance to play in front of their own fans, Premier League are primed to shift a round of fixtures to the final midweek of the season.

Spurs would be hoping that by the last gameweek, they are in a good position to finish in the UEFA Champions League spots for next season. The top 4 race is very tight this season and playing in front of 10,000 fans in their own stadium in the final gameweek could work massively in their favour were they to need a result.
