Jose Mourinho confirms Harry Kane will start for Tottenham against Dinamo Zagreb

Speaking in his pre-match press conference (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed that star striker Harry Kane will start against Dinamo Zagreb.

Tottenham travel to Croatia to take on Zagreb in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League Round of 16 tie this Thursday night. Spurs have a two-goal advantage heading into the game after having beaten the Croatian champions 2-0 in the home leg, courtesy of a brace from Kane.

And, Mourinho has confirmed that he will once again bank on his star striker to deliver the goods on Thursday as the game is still open.

“Kane is going to play. The game is open and it’s an important game so he plays for us.”

The 27-year-old England captain has enjoyed a spectacular 2020/21 campaign thus far. In 38 games across all competitions, Kane has amassed a mind-blowing tally of 26 goals and 16 assists, highlighting both his goalscoring prowess and creative capabilities.

And, that will once again be needed on Thursday if Spurs are to progress to the quarter-finals of the Europa League, as this could be the more realistic chance for the club to play Champions League football next season.

Indeed, Tottenham are currently eighth in the Premier League table, six points off of Chelsea in fourth. Considering how formidable the Blues have been under Thomas Tuchel, it could be difficult for Tottenham or any other team to break into the top four.

So, it becomes extremely important that Mourinho & co. go all the way in the Europa League – something which the Portuguese did back in his first season in charge at Manchester United.

An early goal or two can kill the game off, post which Mourinho can take Kane off and give him a breather on Thursday night.
