Liverpool interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur target Sander Berge

As per the latest transfer news update by Eurosport, reigning Premier League champions Liverpool have entered the race to sign Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge, who is a target for Tottenham Hotspur.

Berge has been with Sheffield United since January last year, having arrived from Belgian outfit KRC Genk for a club-record fee of £22m. The 23-year-old had become a regular member of the starting XI at Bramall Lane until an injury cut short his campaign last December.

But, with Sheffield United headed for relegation back to the Championship, it is very much likely that Berge will be on the move in the summer transfer window. Indeed, the Blades sit at the bottom of the Premier League table, with Chris Wilder having vacated the managerial post recently, the drop looks only a matter of time.

With that, the club will have to let go of some of their big earners, including Berge, which had attracted the interest of Tottenham. It was claimed that Sheffield United would be willing to part ways with the Norwegian international for a fee of £22.2m. (h/t Express)

However, now, according to an update from Eurosport, Liverpool have also entered the transfer race to sign Berge. The Reds will be needing reinforcements in the middle as Georginio Wijnaldum’s contract is up for expiry at the end of the season. And, Berge has emerged as a potential replacement for the Dutchman.

In addition, Aston Villa are also said to be keen on the Norwegian international.

Berge, given his age and potential, would be a top signing for our midfield department that needs an upgrade on the likes of Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks. Whether the club acts on the reported interest in Berge, however, remains to be seen.
