Tottenham have dropped seven places since the last week of January when they were at the top of the Premier League and many pundits and reporters were calling them favourites for the Premiership title. But in this abnormal but exciting for spectators-season, a team on top one week can find themselves sliding down to 8th the next. Right now, they find themselves on 45 points. That’s a whopping 26 points behind league leaders Manchester City.
Let’s see what’s going on at Spurs now and what’s left for them to fight for this season.
Next Up for Tottenham
They lost the latest London derby, going down to Arsenal after a red card and conceding a penalty. For a match report on the derby showdown, see the highlights here.
This week Tottenham’s loss in Europa League Round of 16 tie against Dinamo Zagreb adds more pressure to Jose Mourinho and his men. Meanwhile, Croatia’s Supreme Court sentenced Zoran Mamic and his brother Zdravko Mamic to a five-year prison sentence. The charges involve tax evasion worth 12.2 million Kuna (£1.37m) and the siphoning of funds from player transfers estimated to be 116 million kuna (£13.13m) from Dinamo football club.

Bale’s Change of Form
The last few outings for Gareth Bale have shown us glimpses of what the Welsh Wizard can do on a pitch. Mourinho has publicly backed his player, and the relationship seems much better than when Mourinho contradicted a social media post by Bale saying he’s been fit and ready to play when sat on the bench.
Spurs boss says he wants Bale to play every minute of every match but that it is not possible and has to manage the player’s workload. Quite a turnaround from when we all thought that Mourinho had already decided that a season long loan was enough and that Bale would be a certainty to return to Los Blancos at the end of the season.
Transfer News
There is plenty of interest and competition for Southampton’s starlet midfielder Sander Berge. He is one of the few shining lights of a disappointing season for Southampton. Arsenal and Tottenham have expressed interest for the £22.2m rated player.
Another player from Southampton being linked to Spurs is defender Jannik Vestergaard. At 28 he fits the mould of player that Mourinho likes and will help shore up the central defensive line for Spurs. Southampton seems to be fertile shopping ground for Spurs after they nabbed midfielder Hojberg from them last summer and Peter Crouch and Gareth Bale all those seasons ago.
