Transfer News: Wolves open to Matt Doherty return from Tottenham
According to transfer news from Football Insider, Wolves are said to be open to re-signing Tottenham star Matt Doherty. The Irishman has been struggling this season and has not looked settled at all since moving to Spurs at the start of this season.
Doherty arrived at Tottenham Hotspur last summer from Wolves in a deal worth £15m. Considering his experience and exploits with Wolves, the deal was hailed as quite the bargain. Upon his arrival, Tottenham also allowed Kyle Walker-Peters to leave permanently to join Southampton.
However, Doherty has struggled to reproduce his form at Tottenham while Walker-Peters has shone at Southampton. Glenn Hoddle has claimed that the reason behind the Irishman’s struggles under Jose Mourinho is that he is playing a different role than he used to at Wolves.
Nonetheless, now it is being said that Wolves are open to having back their former star but they are likely to pay less than what they received for him. Wolves did replace Doherty with Nelson Semedo but he has not fully replaced what Doherty offered.

Glenn Hoddle also spoke about Doherty’s struggles playing at full-back instead of wing-back. It’s actually hard to fault Doherty for his performances given he is playing in a different role. However, he has slowly started to feature on a more frequent basis, which is encouraging to say the least.
