Tottenham News: Erik Lamela transfer ruled out by Fabrizio Romano
Speaking on the Here We Go podcast, journalist Fabrizio Romano has delivered an important bit of transfer news update on the future of Tottenham Hotspur star Erik Lamela.
Lamela is currently one of the longest-serving members in the Tottenham squad, having been with the club since 2013. Signed from AS Roma following the exit of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid, the Argentine has always divided opinion among the fanbase.
Injuries haven’t helped his case either as he has never quite been able to carve out a regular place in the lineup for himself. As things stand, Lamela, who earns £80,000-a-week at Tottenham, has managed 251 appearances for the club, bagging 37 goals and 47 assists.
The ongoing campaign has seen the 29-year-old feature 29 times in all competitions producing a tally of four goals and an assist, including that special Rabona goal in the NLD last week. With his contract expiring in a little over a year, Romano has now claimed that Lamela is not thinking about Tottenham.
“He wants to stay, he wants to focus on Tottenham. There are a lot of rumours, but he is always focused on Tottenham. His main idea is to stay, to fight for a place, to be a starter for Tottenham.
“So, at the moment, he’s not planning to leave the club. It was the same in January when there were rumours about other countries, other clubs – no, Lamela is focused on Tottenham. He’s happy at Tottenham. So, I think he will stay. If something big [doesn’t] happen next summer, he will stay.”

Lamela, since returning from his injury, has looked bright. At 29, he is in his peak years and has plenty left to offer. It remains to be seen if Tottenham decide to hand him a new deal or cash in on him in the summer once he enters the last year of his contract.
