Tottenham News: Problems run deeper than Mourinho claims Glenn Hoddle
Writing in his column for news publication Evening Standard, Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle has claimed that issues at the club run deeper than manager Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho took over the reins of the club in November 2019 following the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino. While there have been positives under the Portuguese tactician, it seems like they have been outweighed by the negatives.
The pressure is on the former Real Madrid and Chelsea boss after Tottenham crashed out of the UEFA Europa League this past week against Dinamo Zagreb. And amid question marks over his future, Hoddle has opined that there are issues that run deeper than just the manager.
“I think it is more than just the manager, I think it goes deeper at Tottenham. Even when they went top of the table, I could not say it at the time but I always felt it was a bit of a false dawn. And it is turning out that way.”
Hoddle then went on to highlight that some of the players from Pochettino’s team like Hugo Lloris, Toby Alderweireld were past their prime while the likes of Dele Alli and Eric Dier have seen a major decline in performance levels. And this is something that the club needs to look at according to the former manager.
“That team all produced at similar times and the balance was right. And that, unfortunately, has been dismantled and it is a rebuild. It depends what the club wants to do. They have a wonderful stadium, a wonderful training ground. Have they got the best squad? No and that has got to be looked at.”
