Tottenham eye one of Dean Henderson, Nick Pope and Sam Johnstone as Hugo Lloris replacement
According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on the English trio of Dean Henderson, Nick Pope and Sam Johnstone as long-term replacements for Hugo Lloris.
Lloris has been with the club for almost a decade now and has been the undisputed choice in goal. However, over the course of the season, he has shown signs of age catching up with him. Add to it, the Frenchman’s contract expires at the end of the next season while he has also been linked with a return to France.
To that end, Tottenham are now scouring a long-term replacement for Lloris with three options – Henderson, Pope and Johnstone popping on the club’s radars.
Manchester United’s Henderson has been in the sights of Tottenham for quite some time. He has been playing second-fiddle to David de Gea at Old Trafford, leading to frustration over his lack of playing time. And that is something that Spurs were hoping to capitalise on.
However, that has changed now with Henderson getting a run of games in the first-team in de Gea’s absence. Furthermore, it is unlikely that Manchester United would let the 23-year-old join a direct rival.
Apart from him, Tottenham also have Nick Pope of Burnley as a viable option. The England international has been one of the few positives for Burnley this term and has been a consistent performer between the sticks for a few seasons now.
Finally, West Brom’s Sam Johnstone is also being looked at, as per the report. The former Manchester United academy graduate has been a sole bright spot in a season that seems set to end in relegation for the Baggies.
