Tottenham News: Ben Davies withdraws from Wales squad due to injury
According to Sky Sports News, Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies has withdrawn his name from the Wales national team squad due to an injury.
The first international break of the 2021 calendar year started this week with teams in Europe set to be involved in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Wales are penned in to play Belgium in Group E on Wednesday before taking on Mexico (friendly) and the Czech Republic.
Davies had been named in the Wales squad. An experienced campaigner, the Tottenham left-back is a key component of the Welsh national team.
However, it has now been confirmed that the defender has withdrawn from the squad due to injury. A Football Association of Wales statement said:
“Ben Davies and Tom Lockyer have both withdrawn from the squad due to injury.”
The injury that has ruled Davies out of action for the national team was the same one he picked up in our 2-0 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League this past weekend.
Having come on as a second-half substitute for the injured Sergio Reguilon, Davies also seemed to pick up a calf problem. While he did play through the game, it has now been claimed that he has failed to recover from the issue that he picked up.
It is unclear as to how serious the problem is, but it was enough for Davies to pull his name out of the squad for the games against Belgium, Mexico and the Czech Republic.

Davies hasn’t been a regular for Tottenham this term, with Reguilon overtaking him as the first-choice left-back since arriving in the summer. Nevertheless, a seasoned campaigner, his experience would come in handy as we enter the tricky backend of the season. It remains to be seen if his injury is severe.
