Tottenham News: Gareth Bale confirms Real Madrid return at the end of the season
In a surprise bit of news, on-loan Tottenham star Gareth Bale has confirmed that he will not be returning for another spell at the club. (h/t ESPN)
The 31-year-old returned to the club last summer, seven years after he had left Spurs for Real Madrid in 2013. Arriving on a season-long loan deal, Bale had initially struggled to get going, with injuries and fitness issues hampering him.
However, that has changed in recent weeks with Bale showing signs of form and quality in recent matches. This had led to speculations that Tottenham could look to keep him at the club beyond the current season.
But, the Wales international has ruled out such a possibility, insisting that just one season back at Spurs was always his plan.
“I think the main reason I came to Spurs this year was to play football first and foremost but going into the Euros, I want to be match-fit.
“The original plan was to do a season at Spurs and after the Euros still have a year left at Real Madrid. My plan is to go back and that’s as far I’ve planned to be honest.”
Bale, in his second spell at Tottenham, has scored 10 goals in 25 games so far. While it took some time for him to get going, the 31-year-old had shown some good signs of understanding and link-up with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.
