Transfer News: Tottenham eyeing Brazilian starlet Gabriel Menino
According to Sky Sports News (h/t TeamTalk), Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a summer transfer for versatile Brazilian starlet Gabriel Menino.
Menino, 20, came through the youth ranks at Brazilian outfit Palmeiras and made his first-team breakthrough last year. Since then, the midfielder has gone on to rack up 59 senior appearances, scoring four goals and setting up seven more. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Primarily a central midfielder, Menino is a versatile operator who has been used at right-back, right-wing, attacking midfield as well as left-midfield at the Brazilian club. This versatility and flexibility, coupled with the potential that he has shown has led to interest from a host of clubs from Europe.
Recently, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid had been credited with an interest in the 20-year-old. Now, news are claiming that Tottenham too are showing transfer interest in Menino.
It is stated that Tottenham are looking to recruit youth players from South America following the changes that have happened in rules due to Brexit. And Menino is seen as a player who can add a lot of value with his versatile nature.
Tottenham are yet to settle on an established central midfield pairing with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg lacking a reliable partner thus far. At the same time, the club could also use a right-back considering that neither Serge Aurier nor Matt Doherty have done nearly well enough this season.
