Transfer News: Tottenham star Hugo Lloris linked with a summer move to Man United
According to news from French publication L’Equipe (h/t Metro), Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris could end up sealing a shock summer transfer to rivals Manchester United.
Lloris has been with Tottenham Hotspur since 2012, having joined from Olympique Lyon. One of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League during his prime, the Frenchman has shown signs of decline recently.
At 34, he does not have many years left at the highest level, as a result of which, Tottenham have been scouring the market to identify long-term replacements for Lloris. One such player who has been identified is Lille’s Mike Maignan, which would open the door for Lloris to leave the club in the summer.
And, as per the aforementioned report, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner could end up securing a transfer to our rivals Manchester United. This is because the Red Devils are likely to cut David de Gea, who has been their first-choice for a decade now, from the squad following the emergence of Dean Henderson.
The 23-year-old Englishman had played second-fiddle to De Gea for the majority of the season. But recent games have seen him start ahead of the Spaniard, hinting at what’s in store for the future. Given his massive wages, the club might look to offload him, with Lloris potentially seen as an alternative.

Lloris will be entering the final year of his contract with Tottenham at the end of the season. Interestingly enough, United’s Henderson has been linked with Spurs as a potential long-term replacement for the Frenchman. However, it is hard to see either move taking place in the summer.
