Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho reveals how ‘Mourinistas’ motivate him to do better

Speaking at an event (h/t Sky Sports), Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has opened up on how he is motivated by his fans across the world, or as he calls them ‘Mourinistas’.

The Portuguese tactician took over at Tottenham in November 2019 and has had ups and downs so far during his time in North London. Of late, Mourinho has come under intense pressure following the exit from the UEFA Europa League at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb.

The demand of a high-pressure job of a football manager, on that he has been doing for close to two decades can be taxing for anyone. But, Mourinho has revealed that he draws inspiration and motivation from his supporters worldwide.

“Honestly, I get my strength from myself, but mainly from the people that I love and the people that I know, they love me, even if many of them I don’t know them. I never met them. I used to call them the Mourinistas because in Portugal we use these ‘inistas’ in the end of the name of the club that we love to express to supporters.”

On asked how he deals with critics of his management, Mourinho insisted that he has grown used to it, in the process calling himself one of the most important managers in football.

“They think they can discuss football with one of the most important managers in the game. That’s the beauty of football. I got used to it. I appreciate that. So that’s fine for me.”

Mourinho is without a doubt one of the most successful managers of all time. However, things haven’t gone as per plans for him at Tottenham so far. Hopefully, that takes a turn in the coming weeks with the Portuguese leading the cup to a top-four finish and the Carabao Cup triumph.
