Noel Whelan slams Gareth Bale for his statements
According to news from Football Insider, Noel Whelan was furious with what Gareth Bale said about returning to Real Madrid. Bale recently dropped a bombshell on Spurs claiming that he would return to Real Madrid at the end of the season as planned and wanted to play regular football at Spurs.
Bale returned to Tottenham last summer, signing on a season-long loan deal from Real Madrid. After having endured a difficult start to life back in London, the winger was starting to show signs of form over the past month or so.
This sparked speculations that Tottenham might consider signing him on a permanent basis. Bale, though, poured cold water on such hopes, claiming that he came to Spurs only for a season, so that he could get fit for the Euros, adding that he never had a plan of staying beyond the current season.
That has managed to anger former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan who felt that it was a ‘kick to the teeth’.
“Very strange to come out and say that he’s using a club that gave him everything to go back to a club that has gotten no intention of wanting him back at all. On both ends, it’s a kick in the teeth for Real Madrid. A massive kick in the teeth for Tottenham to say you’re using them as a stepping stone to get fit.
“You don’t use Tottenham as a stepping stone. You use a lower club as a stepping stone to get fit, or you stay at Real Madrid. It’s as simple as that. If you’ve got no intention of making this move permanent and putting in the work effort that is needed to show them that he wants to be there, then it’s never gonna work out. It’s a waste of time for everybody, including Gareth Bale.”

Whelan does have a good point given Bale pretty much used Spurs as a way to get back his fitness and play regularly. Quite how the club reacts to this statement remains to be seen but surely it cannot go down well.
