Tottenham News: Danny Murphy defends Jose Mourinho amid criticism
According to news from Liverpool Echo, Danny Murphy has defended Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho. The former England international spoke about how Tottenham cannot emulate the likes of Man City and Liverpool.
Spurs have had a topsy-turvy season. They started the season well and even went on to claim first place for a few weeks. However, that was short-lived as they tumbled straight down and are now in sixth place with a shot at top-four.
However, Danny Murphy believes that Spurs are not really equipped to deal with the season like City and Liverpool. He felt that Mourinho is doing a good job and is not getting the credit for it.
“Mourinho is very adept at using the tools he has. I don’t think he can make Tottenham into Man City or Liverpool and play that way with the players he’s got. I think he looked at the group of players, and he’s tried to adapt the way he plays to get success.
“If Tottenham win that game against City and finish in the top four, that’s a tremendous achievement with that group of players. Some will sit here and say, ‘well, he should do that with that group of players’. No – the budget he has and squad he’s got doesn’t compare to some of the clubs he’s competing with.”
