Transfer News: Tottenham interested in signing 21-year-old Sven Botman
According to news from The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur have been monitoring Lille defender Sven Botman closely with a summer transfer in the works for the Dutchman.
The 21-year-old joined Lille last summer from Dutch giants Ajax and has been a huge hit in France, establishing himself as one of the best young prospects in Ligue 1. Botman has featured in 39 games across all competitions for his new club, contributing with an assist in the process.
Reports earlier this year had claimed that Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho is an admirer of Botman’s qualities. (h/t Express)
Now, The Telegraph has corroborated those claims, stating that Tottenham have been watching the Netherlands Under-21 international for quite a few months now.
Tottenham strengthened their defensive unit last summer with the signing of Joe Rodon from Swansea City. However, the Welshman hasn’t been able to carve out a place for himself in the starting XI as of yet.
And with Eric Dier also regressing and Toby Alderweireld not getting any younger, a new centre-back becomes necessary for the club next summer. And, securing the transfer of Sven Botman from Lille could prove to be a brilliant move for Jose Mourinho and Tottenham Hotspur.

Botman, at 21, has his best years well in front of him. But despite his young years, the Dutchman has demonstrated great maturity while his technical skills are admirable as well. But with the defender’s contract with the Ligue 1 club running till the summer of 2025, Lille could demand top dollar for his signing in the summer.
It now remains to be seen if Tottenham make a move to secure the transfer of Botman in the summer.
