Transfer News: Tottenham told to shell out £35m to sign Sander Berge

According to news from the Sheffield Star, Premier League strugglers Sheffield United have made it clear that they will demand a transfer fee of £35m for Tottenham target Sander Berge.

The 23-year-old Berge arrived at Sheffield United in the January transfer window last year and has grown into a vital player at the Bramall Lane. Even though the team has struggled this term, the Norwegian international had been doing well, although he hasn’t featured since December due to a serious injury.

With Sheffield United headed for relegation from the Premier League, the Blades will need to make cuts to their wage bill ahead of the next season. This could lead to them selling some of their big players in the summer, with Berge being one among them.

Tottenham have been credited with an interest in the Sheffield United midfielder and understandably so. Spurs have lacked a proper midfield partner for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this term.

With Moussa Sissoko not getting any younger and Harry Winks failing to make the most of his chances, adding someone like Berge could prove to be a masterstroke for the north London giants. His signing would also allow Jose Mourinho to use Tanguy Ndombele in a higher role up the pitch where he can be more effective.

And, Tottenham have now been told that any deal for Berge could cost at least £35m. It had been earlier reported that a deal could be done for a fee of around £28m. But the Blades, based on the research from the CIES Football Observatory, believe that they can get somewhere between £30m and £40m for Berge.

Tottenham are not the only club interested in Berge though. Arch-rivals Arsenal are also in the hunt to land the Norwegian international while Premier League champions Liverpool also have an interest in the midfielder.

It remains to be seen if Spurs are willing to meet the Blades’ asking price for Berge.
