Tottenham News: Sergio Reguilon doubtful for Newcastle United clash
In a piece of bad news for Tottenham fans, Sky Sports has claimed that key defender Sergio Reguilon is a major doubt for the weekend clash against Newcastle United.
The 24-year-old arrived at Tottenham last summer from Real Madrid and has quickly become an integral member of the first-team under Jose Mourinho. Having displaced Ben Davies as the first-choice left-back Reguilon has made quite an impression with both his attacking and defensive capabilities.
However, Tottenham could have to make do without him when club football returns to action following the two-week international break this weekend. Spurs resume their quest to finish in the top-four in the Premier League against Newcastle United on Sunday.
However, they might have to do so without Reguilon in the squad. The 24-year-old picked up an injury in the last game against Aston Villa. He had to be replaced by Ben Davies early in the second period as a result. And, it seems like the Spanish international hasn’t been able to recover fully in time for the weekend game.
The report claims that Reguilon is back doing light training work this week. However, he has not yet returned to full training with the rest of the players who did not fly away for international duty during the break.
Reguilon’s potential unavailability becomes a major concern given as Ben Davies is also likely to miss out with a significant calf injury that ruled him out of Wales’ international fixtures.

With Reguilon and Davies both missing and Matt Doherty also picking up an injury on international duty, it remains to be seen who plays at left-back vs Newcastle. Japhet Tanganga could be an option with Jose Mourinho having used him in that position previously.
