Transfer News: Tottenham set to battle Borussia Dortmund for Mike Maignan

According to news from France Football, Tottenham Hotspur have been joined by Borussia Dortmund in the transfer race for Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

Maignan, 25 came through the youth ranks at PSG before making the switch to Lille in 2015 in search of first-team football. After a year or two of playing backup, the Frenchman has become the undisputed first-choice in goal for Les Dogues and has broken his way into the France national team as well.

Regarded as one of the top goalkeepers in Ligue 1, Maignan has been linked with a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur, amid doubts over the future of Hugo Lloris. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner is 34 years old and is entering the final year of his contract with the club.

So, Tottenham are said to be preparing for life after the veteran shot-stopper with Maignan emerging as one of the top candidates to replace Lloris in the long run. However, Spurs are now set to face competition from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund for the signing of Maignan.

It is said that the German outfit are looking for a goalkeeper to compete with first-choice custodian Roman Burki and the Lille stopper has emerged as a target along with RB Leipzig’s Peter Gulacsi Benfica’s Odisseas Vlachodimos.

Even though, it is being said that Tottenham will not sell Lloris this summer, bringing in a long-term replacement for him should be something that the club considers. And Maignan, given his age and proven pedigree in France, would be a fine addition.

Not to forget the fact that he has worked with Spurs’ goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos, which means he would settle in well at the club too.
