Gareth Bale hails Tottenham teammate Joe Rodon after Wales defeat the Czech Republic
Taking to Twitter, on-loan Tottenham Hotspur superstar Gareth Bale has hailed club and country teammate Joe Rodon after Wales defeated the Czech Republic at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Wales took on Czech Republic in their second FIFA World Cup Qualifier contest in Group E on Tuesday night. And after having toiled to get their noses ahead for most of the game, the Dragons scored the only goal of the game through Manchester United winger Daniel James in the last ten minutes – a goal that was set up by Bale.
However, Wales faced a late scare when Czech Republic could have equalised. In the 92nd minute, a well-worked move from the visitors saw the ball fall to Ondrej Celustka mere yards out from goal. But Joe Rodon flew in and produced a sensational block to deflect the ball and send it over the bar.
Rodon’s heroic action ensured Wales held on to their narrow lead and secured three points. And, Bale was full of praise for his Tottenham teammate on Twitter.
Sharing a clip of Rodon’s crucial block, Bale captioned it “Class from Joe!”

Both Joe Rodon and Gareth Bale arrived at Tottenham last summer, the former on a permanent transfer from Swansea City, the latter on loan from Real Madrid. Neither has had an easy season in London, having struggled to get regular game-time, more so in the case of Rodon.
However, his display in general and the last-ditch block against Czech Republic showed that he can be a reliable defender if trusted and given a regular chance by Jose Mourinho.
