Julian Nagelsmann addresses Marcel Sabitzer future amid Tottenham links

Speaking to BILD (h/t BuLiNews), RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann has addressed the future of midfielder Marcel Sabitzer amid links with Tottenham Hotspur.

The 27-year-old Sabitzer has been one of the best central midfielders in Bundesliga over the past couple of years. And as the Austrian is set to enter the final year of his contract with Leipzig, rumours surrounding his future have been flying around.

Most recently, it was claimed that a triumvirate of Premier League clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, were keen on signing Sabitzer at the end of the season. The other two clubs being Manchester United and Liverpool.

Sabitzer’s contract with RB Leipzig expires in 2022

Nagelsmann, though, has brushed off any such speculations, insisting that nothing is decided as far as Sabitzer’s future at RB Leipzig is considered.

“Nothing is certain about ‘Sabi’ yet, neither in one direction nor the other. His contract with us runs until 2022. It’s normal that many clubs are looking at him.”

Sabitzer is a top midfielder who can play in a box-to-box role or line up in a more advanced position on the field. The Austrian international has produced a tally of seven goals and six assists in 31 games for Leipzig this season.

Someone like him can be the ideal partner for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the midfield at Tottenham Hotspur. Add to it, the fact that he is entering the final year of his contract would mean he would be available at a lesser price than he would command in normal circumstances.

Signing him would be a huge step in the right direction for Tottenham. However, given the competition, any move would not be straightforward.
