As confirmed by Sky Sports, Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa, who had been linked with Tottenham Hotspur, has signed a new five-year deal with the club.

However, both Tottenham and Liverpool are likely to have to call off their pursuit of Konsa as he has now signed a new contract with Aston Villa. The defender’s previous deal was set to run out at the end of the 2022/23 campaign but his has put pen to paper on a new five-year deal, extending his stay at Villa Park till 2026.

“I’m really grateful that the club have rewarded me with a new contract. It’s a great feeling to know the club really believes in you and has trust in you. It’s something I’ve been working towards since I got here, proving myself and playing games week in, week out.”

Konsa has had a solid season thus far, featuring in 26 of Villa’s 28 Premier League games. Young and proven in the Premier League, the 23-year-old could have been a fine addition to the Tottenham squad given that Toby Alderweireld isn’t getting any younger.

However, a move looks very much off the table now that he has committed his long-term future to the club.
