Transfer News: Tottenham downplay Sven Botman links
According to transfer news from Inside Futbol, Tottenham could choose not to pursue a move for Sven Botman next summer.
The 21-year-old joined Lille last summer from Dutch giants Ajax and has been a huge hit in France, establishing himself as one of the best young prospects in Ligue 1. Botman has featured in 39 games across all competitions for his new club, contributing with an assist in the process.
Reports earlier this year had claimed that Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho is an admirer of Botman’s qualities. Tottenham strengthened their defensive unit last summer with the signing of Joe Rodon from Swansea City. However, the Welshman hasn’t been able to carve out a place for himself in the starting XI as of yet.
And with Eric Dier also regressing and Toby Alderweireld not getting any younger, a new centre-back becomes necessary for the club next summer. And, securing the transfer of Sven Botman from Lille could prove to be a brilliant move for Jose Mourinho and Tottenham Hotspur. However, now it has been said that Spurs are looking for a different kind of centre-back.

They want a player with Premier League experience and could hence pass up on the talented Botman. At 21, Botman has his best years well in front of him. Despite his young years, the Dutchman has demonstrated great maturity while his technical skills are admirable as well. Spurs could be making a mistake here in passing up on him.
