Tottenham disgusted by racial abuse against Davinson Sanchez; urge social media companies to act
Tottenham Hotspur have issued a statement condemning the racial abuse aimed at defender Davinson Sanchez after the game against Newcastle United.
Tottenham were held to a 2-2 draw by the Magpies away at St. James’ Park on Sunday afternoon. Joelinton and Joe Willock scored on either side of a Harry Kane double to deny Spurs a much-needed win.
Sanchez, who had been in good form of late, had a stinker against Newcastle. The Colombian looked shaky from the start and was guilty of giving away the ball cheaply on many occasions, including the moment when Newcastle scored the first goal.
The former Ajax man was also caught out of position in the build-up to the Magpies’ equaliser late in the game. And, after his performances, Sanchez was subjected to vile racial abuse by fans on social media, images of which he shared on his Instagram with a caption that read “Nothing Changes”.
Tottenham immediately issued a statement condemning the actions. The club also urged social media platforms to take action against the ones indulging in this vile behaviour.
“We are disgusted by the racist messages received by Davinson Sanchez today and are calling on social media platforms to take action. We stand with you, @daosanchez26, and all those continuing to suffer abuse online.”

It’s just appalling to see players being targeted by these so-called ‘fans’ time and again. It is high time that social media platforms take a stand do something about this.
