Transfer News: Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld eyes summer exit after Mourinho comments
According to news from Voetbal24, Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld is eyeing a transfer away from the club following recent comments made by Jose Mourinho.
Alderweireld has been with Tottenham for almost six years now having joined from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid. During this time, the Belgian has established himself as one of the most reliable centre-backs in the Premier League even though his form has been a bit up and down this season.
Nevertheless, he has been the most assured of the entire Tottenham defence. However, it seems like manager Jose Mourinho seems to have driven Alderweireld to consider a transfer away from Tottenham. This development comes after the manager’s comments on the Belgian post Spurs’ 2-2 draw against Newcastle United.
Alderweireld had been dropped out of the matchday squad by Mourinho, who claimed that it was because he returned late from international duty. However, the 32-year-old had been back in training on Thursday itself, contrary to what the manager said.
He then followed it up with a swipe at Alderweireld and teammate Serge Aurier indicating that Tottenham weren’t always winning games when the duo was present in the lineup either.
Mourinho’s comments have reportedly angered some of the Tottenham players. And it seems that Alderweireld is now considering leaving the club in light of these developments.
