Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur shortlist Koen Casteels as Hugo Lloris replacement
According to news from BILD journalist Christian Falk (h/t Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur have shortlisted Koen Casteels as a potential replacement for Hugo Lloris ahead of the summer transfer window.
Lloris is 34 years old and is entering the final phase of his career. While he stood out in our last game against Newcastle United, the Frenchman has shown signs of decline over the course of the season.
And it seems like manager Jose Mourinho is preparing a list of candidates who could take over from the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. And, as per Falk, Casteels, is very much on the radars of the north London outfit. (h/t Sport Witness)
“Tottenham have been looking at the goalkeeper position. Hugo Lloris is 34, and his contract ends in 2022. He is not in dispute, but of course, you have to look at it; it could become a focus of attention.
“They (Tottenham) are watching (Casteels), and we know he would like to go to a top club as he would like to recommend himself to have a chance of going to Qatar with the national team. Whether a change comes is questionable because he is still tied until 2024, which means he costs a bit of money, but he is, at least, on the shortlist.”
Casteels may not be the biggest of names but the Belgian has established himself as a reliable goalkeeper in Bundesliga for Wolfsburg, whom he joined in 2015. At 28, he is entering the peak years of his career and can be a handy, investment for the club.

Apart from Casteels, there is also interest in West Bromwich Albion’s Sam Johnstone. Mike Maignan is another player that has been linked with Tottenham. It will be interesting to see if the club does actually bring in a goalkeeper this summer.
