Transfer News: Leicester City overtake Tottenham Hotspur in Boubakary Soumare transfer race
A report by Daily Star claims that Tottenham Hotspur have shown interest in Lille midfielder, Boubakary Soumare, in a bid to sign him.
But they are not the only club after him. In fact, Leicester City have taken a big lead in the bid to sign Soumare, with Manchester United also cited as one of the interested teams.
The Foxes are ‘confident’ of signing the £30million midfielder after his impressive performances in Ligue Un this season. The Frenchman has been described as the next Paul Pogba for his box-to-box displays.
And it seems that Leicester would be his destination if he was to join the Premier League. The report adds that Brendan Rodgers’ side has tracked him for almost a year.
A lost opportunity?
It’s no surprise that the 22-year-old is being chased by some of Europe’s biggest clubs. He has played a monumental role in midfield this season for a Lille side that sits at the top of the Ligue 1 table.
Les Douges have conceded the least goals in the French top division with just 19, and Soumare’s displays as a holding midfielder have contributed to that tally. He currently has just 15 months left on his current contract. (h/t Daily Star)
Spurs could really use a midfielder like him. The club already has Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Harry Winks, and Mousa Sissoko that can play in that role, but Soumare seems worth the hype.
He’s also pretty young and arguably has the best years of his career still ahead of him. His contract situation is also something that can be taken advantage of.
