Transfer News: Tottenham set to battle Arsenal, PSG for Lucas Vazquez
According to Spanish news outlet AS (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur will have to battle arch-rivals Arsenal and French champions PSG for the transfer of Real Madrid star Lucas Vazquez.
The Spanish international is out of contract at Real Madrid at the end of the ongoing season and with talks not going as per plans, is set to be available on a free transfer in the summer. Vazquez had been offered a new deal by the Merengues but he rejected the offer as he would have had to take a ten percent pay-cut.
As a result, the 29-year-old is assessing his options ahead of the summer transfer window. And Vazquez’s soon-to-be free agent status has led to a lot of interest from a number of clubs across Europe so far. Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Spanish winger for a while now but now face two familiar faces in the transfer race for Vazquez. (h/t Express)
Local rivals Arsenal are also said to be keen on signing the Spanish international. Along with them, French champions PSG, managed by our former boss Mauricio Pochettino, are also intent on securing the services of the Real Madrid winger. Apart from these clubs, the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich have also been credited win an interest. (h/t Express)
With Gareth Bale’s loan deal winding down at the end of the season and Steven Bergwijn misfiring adding someone like Vazquez would be a handy move for Tottenham. The Spaniard can also fill in at right-back if needed as he has done to brilliant effect for Real Madrid in the current season.
