Reports linking Maurizio Sarri with a job at Tottenham not true

A report by Football.london (h/t Express) states that the talk of Maurizio Sarri replacing Jose Mourinho as Tottenham Hotspur manager is ‘wide of the mark’.

Mourinho’s Tottenham have had a torrid run of form this year, especially since their Premier League defeat against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in January. And that has seen Spurs slide 7th in the table.

The club looks to be on track to miss out on a spot in the UEFA Champions League next season. On top of it, the team is out of the FA Cup and the UEFA Europa League, with an embarrassing defeat against Dinamo Zagreb sealing the club’s fate in Europe.

This has led to talks of Spurs wanting to sack Mourinho. But the talk of Maurizio Sarri, the ex Chelsea manager, replacing him are not true according to the latest report.

Jose out

Sarri is without a club since he left the helm at Juventus last year. Before that, he enjoyed a short but eventful spell in London with the Blues in the Premier League.

While there is a chance for Mourinho to redeem his team’s season in the Carabao Cup, Spurs are preparing for life without him.

Julian Nagelsmann, albeit a Bayern Munich target, is on Tottenham’s radar to replace Mourinho. And so is Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers, who has guided his Foxes side into a strong position within the top 4 this season. (h/t Express)

While it is easy to be reactionary in dark times, patience could well be the way to go. If Mourinho retains his best players and is backed in the summer transfer market, then offering him another year is not a bad move.
