Tottenham face deadline to trigger £4.3m break clause for managerial target Oliver Glasner
According to the Express, Tottenham Hotspur have until Friday to trigger a £4.3m exit clause that exists in the contract of managerial target Oliver Glasner.
The 46-year-old Austrian manager has emerged as one of the many potential candidates that Tottenham are looking at, following the sacking of Jose Mourinho. Indeed, the Portuguese was let go of by the club last week after a seventeen-month stint with former midfielder Ryan Mason being appointed the interim manager till the end of the season.
The search for a new manager has been going on with full gusto since but Tottenham haven’t been able to yield the desired result, failing with their pursuit of Julian Nagelsmann while Brendan Rodgers has also distanced himself from the job. (h/t Express)
This has left Tottenham searching for alternative options with Wolfsburg boss Oliver Glasner also emerging as a target. The 46-year-old has been with the Wolves since 2019 and is on the verge of leading them to the Champions League qualification through Bundesliga this season.
Glasner’s stock has sky-rocketed as a result, with the 46-year-old also being linked with RB Salzburg, where he could replace another of Tottenham’s targets, Jesse Marsch, who is bound to RB Leipzig. (h/t Express)
Amidst this managerial merry-go-round, the Express has claimed that Glasner has a break clause worth £4.3m in his contract which clubs can trigger to acquire his services for the said fee. However, that clause runs out on Friday, i.e., April 30. Beyond that, Wolfsburg could demand a fee of their liking as the Austrian is contracted to the club till 2022.

Glasner, however, is said to be not too high on Tottenham’s wishlist. So, it does seem unlikely that the club would move to trigger the said break clause before Friday’s deadline. Instead, it is Erik ten Hag of AFC Ajax and England national team manager Gareth Southgate that are tipped as frontrunners. (h/t Express)
