Tottenham dealt blow in Boubakary Soumare pursuit as Leicester make £35m bid
According to an exclusive report from The Sun, Leicester City have launched a stunning £35m offer to secure the transfer of LOSC Lille midfielder and Tottenham target Boubakary Soumare.
The 22-year-old Soumare joined Lille in 2017 from boyhood club Paris Saint-Germain and has gone on to make huge strides, establishing himself as one of the best young defensive midfielders in Ligue 1.
A mainstay in the middle of the park, Soumare has been a critical player for Lille as they mount a spirited title challenge and currently sit atop the Ligue 1 standings. The Frenchman has featured as many as 40 times across all competitions this season for Christophe Galtier’s side and has contributed with one assist. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Soumare’s development at Lille has seen him attract interest from several clubs in England, including the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Leicester City, Newcastle as well as West Ham United. (h/t The Sun)
Tottenham strengthened the defensive midfield slot last summer with the signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. However, Moussa Sissoko is not getting any younger while Harry Winks has flitted in and out of the side as well. So, adding someone like Soumare, who is a solid player with good, all-round abilities and room for development would have been a good move.
However, it seems like Leicester City are more serious in their interest in the 22-year-old. And in order to beat us as well as United to his signing, the Foxes are launching a £35m bid for Soumare.
