Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur enter the race for Brentford man Ivan Toney
According to a report by Football Insider (h/t The Shields Gazette), Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to secure a transfer for Championship striker, Ivan Toney.
The English forward has been scoring goals for fun since Newcastle United sold him in 2018. A stellar showing in League One for Peterborough saw him earn a £5m move to Brentford last year.
And that has paid dividends, with Toney being the Championship’s top scorer. The striker has 30 goals and 10 assists in the league this season as Brentford make the promotion play-offs.
Of course, the 25-year-old is devoid of any serious Premier League experience, but he could prove to be a great signing, especially if Spurs could get him on the cheap.
Toney to Tottenham?
Harry Kane’s future seems to be in doubt as Spurs go another season without winning a trophy. A lot of big clubs are circling the Englishman and he could be tempted to leave in search of trophies.
In such a case, Tottenham should look for a centre-forward that has more top-flight experience. However, there is nothing wrong with taking a punt on Toney considering his numbers this season.
But making him the club’s main man would be risky, at least right now. Toney could flourish playing alongside Kane, Son Heung-min, or even coming off from the bench.
However, it would be safer for the club to hand him some experience in the Premier League first before throwing him into the shark tank. That is, of course, only possible if the Lilywhites formalize their interest in the Brentford man.

Fans would, of course, prefer if Kane stays for another season at the very least and leads the club to its first piece of silverware since 2008.
