Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur interested in Rodrigo Varanda of Corinthians
A report by SunSport (h/t The Irish Sun) claims that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Rodrigo Varanda from Corinthians.
Spurs have scouted the 18-year-old over the past couple of years and are impressed by him, with talks over a potential £8.5m deal already believed to have started.
Varanda currently plays in Brazil for Corinthians and his contract at the Brazilian club expires in January 2022. He is allowed to begin talks for a free transfer with other clubs from August this year. (h/t The Irish Sun)
But the Brazilian outfit do not want their starlet to leave on a free and are looking for a contract extension in order to secure a transfer fee. And the report adds that his representatives are already ensuring he has the right paperwork in order to make a move to the United Kingdom.
Spurs chasing Varanda
The young forward can play anywhere across the frontline. He would certainly be a great addition to Spurs’ youth squad, and maybe even the senior team next season.
The aforementioned fee makes him a relatively low-risk signing and it would be even better for the Lilywhites if he does not reach a contract agreement at Corinthians and joins on a free transfer.
However, there are no reports of that happening yet and it remains to be seen when and for how much do Spurs sign the youngster for, if at all they do end up getting him to England.
