Jose Mourinho keen to raid Tottenham Hotspur for Eric Dier and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
Jose Mourinho remained unemployed only for a matter of days after being sacked by Tottenham Hotspur. The legendary Portuguese manager is now set to take over at AS Roma at the end of the season.
The 58-year-old’s reign in North London may have been short but it would appear that a number of players left an indelible mark on him. According to Italian publication Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t Football.london), he is keen to take two players, namely Eric Dier and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg with him to Rome.
It would come as no surprise given the key role both players played during Mourinho’s reign at Spurs.
Dier, predominantly deployed as a defensive midfielder under Mauricio Pochettino found new lease of life as a centre-back under Mourinho. The English international had made a name for himself as one of our best players in the rearguard over the second half of the last season and early parts of the ongoing term.
Hojbjerg meanwhile arrived only last summer but quickly established himself as a first-team mainstay. The Dane is an all-action midfielder who is a dominating presence in midfield. It is clear to one and all why Mourinho has his eye on him.
Both players are key members of the Spurs squad and it is difficult to see us sell either of them in the summer. More so it is entirely possible that the Portuguese tactician will be working with a smaller budget at Roma, making it untenable for them to afford our players.

In Roma, Mourinho has embarked upon yet another rebuild and will hopefully do a better job than he did with us. One could say his defensive approach may even win him followers in Italy where safety first is the name of the game.
