Tottenham hold ‘fruitful’ talks with Antonio Conte over managerial role
According to Corriere dello Sport (h/t Metro), Tottenham Hotspur have held ‘fruitful and interesting’ talks with Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte as the club looks for a long-term Jose Mourinho replacement.
Tottenham have been actively scouring the market for a new manager after Jose Mourinho was sacked last month following a severe decline in form and performances since the turn of the year. Ryan Mason has taken over the first-team duties on an interim basis till the season ends in a couple of weeks.
By that time, the club are hoping to have a full-time replacement in place for Mourinho with the likes of Graham Potter, Ralf Rangnick among the names being considered. Also on the list, as per the report, is Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte. (h/t Metro)
The 51-year-old is fresh out of leading Inter Milan to their first league title in over a decade, bringing an end to Juventus’ unchallenged reign in Serie A. Despite having tasted success recently, the Italian could be available next summer due to his frosty relationship with the Nerazzurri owners.
Indeed, Conte had lashed out at the hierarchy at the beginning of the season for the lack of transfer funds, which are unlikely to be available this summer as well with the club going through bit of a financial cull. And with the former Chelsea boss set to be out of contract in a year, there is a chance that he might part ways this year itself, after having led the team to a historic title triumph. (h/t Metro)
Alerted to the development, Tottenham are believed to have held preliminary talks with Conte and his camp over the possibility of him taking over at the club. And, it is said that the talks have proven to be fruitful, with potential transfer targets also being discussed.

Conte has won Serie A titles in his managerial career, three with Juventus and one with Inter. In addition, he also has a Premier League title and an FA Cup triumph against his name during his time at Chelsea. If he is in contention to become the next Tottenham boss, it would certainly be quite the coup,
The report, however, does add that both parties have decided to hit pause on talks for the time being until his situation at Inter becomes clear. But, the door has been left open for the Italian to take over at the club, should things don’t work out for him in Milan.
